Today's Featured Insight
Many English learners say this because it sounds natural in their first language. But in English, this expression is rarely used.
In English, we use "I have a question" or "I'm not sure about something" to express the same idea. "Doubt" in English typically means uncertainty about whether something is true or correct — not simply asking for more information.
Think of a situation where you could use "I have a question."
In a meeting, a classroom, or even a casual conversation — try using it today.
The English Language Framework
These four skills form the foundation of English communication. They are supported by grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation — the building blocks that make language work.
Understanding written English, identifying meaning, recognising structure and developing accuracy and comprehension.
Expressing ideas clearly, accurately and appropriately for different purposes and situations.
Understanding spoken English, recognising words and meaning in natural communication.
Communicating ideas, responding to others, interacting and expressing oneself with increasing confidence and fluency.
Helps us form accurate and meaningful language.
Gives us the words to express meaning.
Helps us communicate clearly and be understood.
Speaking
When speaking, one-word or short answers can sound limited. Developing a response gives you more opportunity to express yourself and show what you can do.
“I work in a bank.”
“I work in a bank. I joined the organisation three years ago, and I mainly deal with customer accounts. I enjoy the interaction with people.”
The second response communicates more information, sounds more natural and gives the listener a clearer picture of who you are and what you do.
Tell us about what you do in 3–4 sentences.
